US 1919, DIRECTOR: ERICH VON STROHEIM
After working as an assistant director and actor for D.W. Griffith, von Stroheim (FOOLISH WIVES, GREED) made his directorial debut with this film, in which he plays an Austrian military officer who attempts to seduce a surgeon’s wife while on a Swiss holiday. One of the director’s most successful films, it was released without front office interference, unlike the fate of so many subsequent von Stroheim productions. (92 mins.) Silent with music track.
