2019 Macular Degeneration and Vision Expo
Free informational event for people with macular degeneration and other eye diseases that cause vision loss.
The Macular Degeneration and Vision Expo aims to help preserve eyesight, promote independence and provide the latest and most accurate information on age-related macular degeneration, including research, treatment, prevention, community resources and strategies for maximizing remaining vision.
The program includes presentations and workshops by OHSU Casey Eye Institute physicians and local vision rehabilitation experts as well as exhibits of visual aids, assistive technologies and community services. Talk will cover how smartphones can help visually impaired people navigate the world, recreational opportunities for people with vision loss, and what a glaucoma diagnosis can mean for patients.
Among the many speakers will be OHSU Casey Eye Institute’s low vision occupational therapist Kathryn Marxen-Simonson, MSOT, OTR/L, CLVT, who is visually impaired herself and helps OHSU patients better navigate life with vision loss. She will discuss how families can adjust to the social and emotional impacts of vision loss.
The event is presented by the Macular Degeneration Center and Vision Rehabilitation Center at the OHSU Casey Eye Institute. The Oregon Commission for the Blind is an event partner.
