Oregon Sinfonietta Performs Dvořák and Beethoven in Free Concert
The award-winning Oregon Sinfonietta, now in its 46th season and conducted by Dr. Donald L. Appert, is a full symphony orchestra of 75+ members that draws together community musicians from the greater Portland metro area. The Sinfonietta offers four free concerts per season. On Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 3:00 pm, the orchestra performs Dvořák’s popular Symphony No. 9 (From the New World). In addition, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major (Emperor) will be performed by one of this season’s Soloist Competition winners, Avery Hsieh. Audiences are invited to share refreshments with the orchestra members and soloist during intermission. For more information, visit www.cmsomus.org.
Avery Hsieh is a junior in the dual immersion program at Corvallis High School. She began her piano studies at the age of five and is currently a student of Dr. Alexandre Dossin at the University of Oregon. In addition to winning the Chamber Music Society of Oregon Competition, Avery was the first place winner of the Oregon Mozart Players Young Soloist Competition in 2017 that included a solo performance on stage with the Oregon Mozart Players. In 2018, she and her brother represented Oregon to compete in the MTNA Northwest Division as a piano duet team. She is currently leading a project working with a local Latino organization to involve more Latino students in music beyond the elementary string programs.
