Salem Youth Music Festival
The Salem Youth Music Festival returns for a second year! Organized by Glory Lyatuu, Megha Joshi, and Anna Chau, the concert features players from McKay, McNary, South, and West high schools. The concert begins at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 790 Marion St NE, Salem.
The festival provides an opportunity for high school musicians to perform in a non-competitive atmosphere, and to showcase their talents to the community. The performers for 2019 include Julie Chen (flute, South Salem), Luis Mejia (euphonium, McKay), Kacey Whitfield (french horn, McNary), Abbi Butler (oboe, West), Ryan Babe (cello, West), Matthew Zheng (violin, South), and Trinity Goff (piano accompanist and soloist). The South wind quintet players include Israel Perez, Teddy Zhang, Joseph Graney, Anna Chau, and Brynn Dempster.
There is a suggested donation of $8, and all proceeds go to The Music Lessons Project, a local nonprofit providing private lessons for middle and high school students in Salem-Keizer Title I schools.
