push/FOLD presents 'Union PDX - Festival:19'

push/FOLD presents Union PDX - Festival:19 Commissioned Portland choreographers, Amy Leona Havin and Carlyn Hudson, join Artistic Director Samuel Hobbs this September 26-29 in a Festival of Contemporary Dance at the Hampton Opera Center (Portland Opera). Showcasing three world-premiere works on a 3/4 round stage, Union PDX highlights the breadth of dance in Portland: Hudsons work is ballet-based, Havins work is influenced by Ohad Naharins Gaga, and Hobbs work is mixed-discipline. Festival:19 is the inaugural production of push/FOLD's Union PDX programfour public evening performances, one outreach performance for young dancers, three professional-level masterclasses led by our respective choreographers (Havin, Hudson, and Hobbs), and three facilitated Artist-Talks, open to the public (September 26, 27, 28). Join us our final evening, September 29, at the Union PDX post-festival Soirée to celebrate the recipients of our Portland Dance Community Awards (PDCA). PDCA Recipients are Portland-based artists and key members of our dance community who are devoted to the success of Portland dance. PDCA Recipients are selected by a panel of our peers from across our Portland dance communities who represent our multi-faceted city. Union PDX - Festival:19 will be performed by the dancers of push/FOLD: Liane Burns, Briley Jozwiak, Ashley Morton, and Holly Shaw. The dancers will be joined by choreographer Carlyn Hudson for her work. Currently comprised of four main-company dancers, led by founder and artistic director, Samuel Hobbs, push/FOLD produces original athletic dance performance and evening-length productions. push/FOLD has performed in numerous regional and local dance festivals, setting work on professional artists and companies within the Northwest. Integrating athletic movement, original music, and minimalistic visual design, push/FOLDs performance work is marked by intelligent use of floor-work entwined with the strength and beauty of sculpturesque partnering and balletic technique. The companys distinct choreographic language, called Visceral Movement Theory™, is rooted in the structural implications of our organsa sort-of practical application in visceral fluid dynamics that fuses the strength and power of athletics with the grace and line of classical movement. push/FOLD is both independently and publicly funded, receiving support from donors and the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and works with local and regional dance schools and universities to deliver master-classes, workshops, and educational opportunities to young dancers, and aspiring professional dancers.
